Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


As the season turns to Spring, we are aware of how change in our personal lives can be similar to the change from Winter to Spring.


Some years the sun and warmer temperatures of Spring can arrive quickly.But in other years, Spring can be delayed and we have to wait during a time of more Winter like weather.


We never question this because we know it is way for nature, and the way of things.


But in our personal lives, when things we have been waiting for don’t happen quickly, we can feel that something is wrong.


This moves us into a a state of unhappiness and away from feelings of gratitude and joy.


Instead of trusting in how the universe unfolds for us, we question our path and waste energy reconsidering it.


It is at these times that we are called to trust in the universe and in our path.


You’ll find that when you do that, you become aware of what you are grateful for in your life and in the world around you.


Happiness will come even during the time you are waiting for your desired change.


When we compose our music, we are taken to that place of serenity and feeling at peace with what is.


Right now we are finishing up the songs that will be on our new 2-song single that will be coming out in June.


Then in July we will be releasing our new EP called Reiki Radiance - Music for Meditation, Sleep and Yoga.


We are very happy to be recording for the first time in Steve’s new studio.

Asking Yourself What is Right?

 

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


Do you ever find yourself spending time thinking about all the things that are going wrong in your life?


These kinds of thoughts lead us to feeling dissatisfaction unhappy with our lives.


One of our favorite teachers is Thich-Nhat-Hanh.In his book "Peace in Every Step," he talks about the idea of asking yourself "What is Right" instead of thinking about what is wrong.


Asking what is right helps us to remember all of the blessings in our lives.


This moves us into a state of gratitude and joy instead of unhappiness.


Native peoples knew this as well with their blessings that remind us "There is beauty before me and beauty behind me."


Gratitude is the path and the way forward though difficulty.


We believe that music can help us on this path and we have been committed to creating music to do that since we began.


We are currently in the studio recording 3 new projects that will be released this year.


There has been great progress on the first four songs and we are very happy with how it’s coming out.

Keep your inner light burning

 

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


At this time of year the changes are hard to ignore as the weather gets colder and the days become shorter.


In the circle of the year it is the time to go within and cultivate our own warmth; for ourselves, our families, our friends and for everyone we meet.


Soon the Winter solstice will be here and we will see the light begin to return.


Until then we are called to keep our inner light burning.


We are all a part of the earth and the stars. We are all here to share this with the world.


During the dark part of the year and during those days when we live through uncertain times, it is this connection to the universe that can be the path through.


Go into nature and feel part of the creation.


Breath deep and let everything go.


Feel at peace.


Our music has always been a way to do this for us and we hope you feel that serenity from it as well.


In the last few weeks we have started to record the first two songs on our next album.

So far working on this new music has been very soothing for us and it has felt good to start on some new songs.

Finding your Path with a Heart

 

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


As humans on this planet of so much beauty and so much discontent, it’s easy to feel pulled in so many directions.


We can think we are sure of our path to fulfill our mission, but as our world changes and we change with it, you can easily wonder if this one is the "path with a heart."


Steve got to thinking about this after shooting a video for our social media followers about our favorite David & Steve Gordon songs.


One song Steve chose is from Sacred Spirit Drums, is called Path with a Heart. We started discussing this after his video.


Being on the right path does not always mean it’s easy or there are no obstacles.There can be times of joy and times of struggle.


There isn’t any sure way to know if you’re on your true path that we can tell you.


But we can say that there are moments where you can sense the rightness of your life.It might be a feeling of peace or it might be a sense of acceptance and trust.


Or you may get a sense of changes in direction you might be called to make.


Whatever your path is right now, stay attuned for these moments so you can recognize them when they happen.


We have always found that spending time in nature is the quickest way to experience these moments.


There is guidance in the whispers of the wind, in the sound of the waves or in the silence of the desert.


It’s also found in music that connects you to the sacred.


We have been called to create music like this since we began recording.


We hope that our music can help you find your way.

Serene and Engaged with Life

 

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


These days the challenge seems to be, how to feel peaceful and stress free in the midst of a busy life?


This becomes even harder when there are things going on in our country and in the world that create feelings of fear and apprehension.


While it may seem like taking time to go within, meditate or spend time in nature is a way to escape, it’s actually the solution to this question.


It’s only when we feel at peace and grounded in the serenity of the earth below our feet that we can make a difference in the world and create the life we were born to live.


If we act in our own day to day lives from a place of agitation and fear it’s very hard to create anything but more of that.


When we draw a circle of serenity around ourselves we are able to take action that will create more love, beauty and peacefulness in our lives and in the world.


This is why we started to record meditation music 40 years ago. We needed to reduce our own stress, stop ourselves from being pulled into busyness of living in a city like Los Angeles. We wanted to cultivate a circle of inner peace in our lives that we could take action from instead.


It’s our hope that listening to our music will help you do this in your life and spread that feeling of serenity to others.


Right now we are composing some new music for acoustic guitar and piano in Steve’s new studio. Soon David’s new studio will be completed as well.

Holding on to Peace

 

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


Just like you, we have been following world events and finding it hard to know how to feel.


There is a sense of wanting to go within, to feel the inner peace of meditation or of creating a peaceful home as a refuge.


But are we being selfish to cultivate peace in our lives when there is so much pain and sorrow in the world?


We have been meditating on this lately as we start to compose our next album.


What we have found is that not only is it not selfish, it’s very important that we all do this.


As more and more of us fill out lives with peace, those waves of peace and love for all beings will radiate out and help to heal the world.


Yes it is important to do what we can do in the realm of action or karma yoga, but even then, we must act from a place of balance and peace.


We can’t wait until the world is a sane and calm place for us to claim peace and serenity in our own lives.


And by not waiting, we are helping that healing and peaceful energy to grow and flourish in the world.


Ever since we started creating music for meditation and healing 40 years ago, we have been sending out musical healing into the world.


You are helping this healing energy grow every time you listen to peaceful music and let your heart become peaceful also.

Standing for Love

We Stand with Ukraine

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


As we walk the path with the heart together, there are times when we are called to stand for love.


It’s at these times when we look into our hearts and decide who we really are.


Humanity is on a journey from a brutal past to a future where every person has dignity, respect and freedom from oppression.


Nothing can stop us all from succeeding in this because it is the core of who we are as humans.


There is a wave building around the world right now, a wave of love for our fellow travelers on this path, a wave of compassion, empathy and love.


This wave has the potential to wash away more of the divisions of the past and move us towards our brighter future together.


Now is our time, all of us, to stand with this wave and with people everywhere who yearn to be free and free from oppression.


We have been on this path since we first meditated in the forest and felt the inner peace and the truth of universal brotherhood.


It is our hope that our music is adding to the healing and peace in the world.


And we hope that by listening to our music, you can get a little more connection to your own inner peace to help you through times like these.


Right now we are planning some new music with the goal to soothe and heal.We look forward to sharing the first tracks with you.

Heading the Inner Call

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


It’s so easy to be absorbed into the busyness, isn’t it?


There is a constant stream of things we need to do in our lives.


Once we begin to catch up then there is always more.


We get pulled into the "doing" and forget to simply "be."


You may notice that this is happening and consider taking a break to walk, to breathe or to meditate.


But even then it’s so hard to detach from the physical, from the material, from the "urgent."


At these times, listen for the inner call.


There is a voice that is beckoning us to stop and go within, to quiet our mind, breathe and let go.


As you start to hear these messages from your higher self, you get better at noticing.


It’s about self-care, self-love, balance and acceptance of "what is."


There is a wonderful sense of peace that will envelope you when you take some time to feel your own inner stillness.


It helps if you have the right music. We have been creating music for cultivating inner peace for 40 years.


In fact 2022 is our 40 year anniversary!

Holding Steady in the Moment

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


As we all make our way through news of the virus getting better but then getting worse again, we are reminded of the need to stay in the moment.


If we project future outcomes based on the current view of how things look now, we will lose both our peace of mind and our happiness.


The same goes for other concerns such as climate change or the state of our democracy.


Just as the river is constantly flowing and changing so is the nature of our shared reality.


As we are pulled into the drama of life, let’s remember take some slow deep breaths and feel the deep peace of the present moment.


When you feel yourself pulled into thinking of the future, remember to return to the now and inner stillness.


We have been recording music to help ourselves and others do this since we began.


Listening to soothing music like this can help you stay in the present moment, while you work, relax, meditate or do yoga.


The right music can make meditation and mindfulness much easier to do.


Now that our new studios are done, we are starting to compose some new music. Soon we will be recording and will let you know when you can hear it.

Finding the Green Shoots

Dear Sequoia Records Tribe,


We seem to all be in a time where there continues to be challenges from many sides - the pandemic, social unrest, worsening climate change and more.


I’m sure you feel as we do, how hard it can be to cultivate peace of mind and hope during all this.


We are learning how important it is to balance out how we get our information so that we don’t only hear about the problems, but we also hear about signs of progress.


There actually are very positive things happening in all these areas, but we have to seek them out.


These are the green shoots of new growth that are evidence that there is a basis for real hope and optimism.


Search for these stories and you will find them.


The majority of people do want to live in a world of fairness and wellness, with a healthy environment where all beings can be happy.


We first visited the Sequoia National Forest and were inspired to create music for healing and meditation back in the 80s.


Now more than ever before we see how important this mission is.


We hope that listening to our music either on music streaming sites or on CD will help you to have hope for the future and find peace in the present.


We are looking forward to bringing you new music to bring peace and balance to your life very soon.
